Dear Glenwood Families,

Another incredibly successful year at Glenwood Elementary is in the books. The year began with our school in a state of flux with the abrupt departure of our beloved principal, Bob Marcucci, to Davidson Middle School. The District appointed former 3rd grade teacher, Kim Goodhope, as our interim principal and under her leadership it appeared our students and staff didn’t miss a beat. We couldn’t have hoped for a better candidate to continue and advance Mr. Marcucci’s great work in developing the culture and climate we so cherish here at Glenwood. Come March, we were thrilled when the District saw fit to remove that interim tag from Ms. Goodhope and install her as our principal going forward.

What a successful year it was for the GSF as well. We met the fundraising goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year. The GSF hosted several exceedingly fun community building and fundraising events throughout the year. Since our last writing, we hosted the Going Gatsby auction which was just a remarkable evening of friends, laughs, great costumes, and generosity. Thank you to all who volunteered their time and effort in putting that memorable evening together. The Daughter’s Dance and Son’s Night in early May were enjoyed by the kids and parents alike, and we look forward to continuing the new tradition of keeping those two events as community builders. The Book Fair was once again a big success. Thanks go to Reily Urban and her team for their hard work, planning, coordination and implementation of the Book Fair. The Spring Sing, Around the World, was probably the best music concert at Glenwood to date. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped put that event together, and especially to our marvelous music teacher, Stephen Duffy. We are so lucky at this school to have a parent community that gives so much of their time and financial support because without them these amazing events wouldn’t happen.

We cannot thank our GSF membership enough, in particular, your dedicated board members. Thank you to co-VPs of Fundraising, John Dasher and Suzanne Maloney. John was responsible for running our Kids Thrive year-long fundraising campaign. John’s efforts, with the help of Kate Siegel, resulted in Kids Thrive meeting its fundraising target for the year. Suzanne was in charge of our Fundraising events and also led our auction team. Our VPs of Finance, Karen Russillo and Andrea Small deserve special thanks and appreciation. Running the finances of a non-profit entity is no small feat and the job they’ve done is beyond exemplary. Thanks also go to Stephanie Robison and Leah Sherman who assisted on the Finance team this year. Thanks to the VPs of School Programs, Ramina Winton and Erica Smith, without whom events like the author days, toy drive and used book fair (to name a few) don’t happen. Thank you to our VPs of Community Building, Caroline Jensen and Jo Pocock. They both have done such great work with events like Fall Family Fun Night, Teacher Appreciation Days, Daughter’s Dance and Son’s Night. The VPs of Communications, Windy Baldridge and Rebecca Cowlin, did exceptional work in streamlining and executing the GSF’s communication strategy. Thanks to Tory O’Keefe who diligently served as our Secretary/Parliamentarian for two years. Thank you to the Teacher Liaison to the GSF, Lisa Bordley, who has served in that position for several years now. And thanks to Koorosh Khashayar and his leadership of the Dad’s Club, with his last remaining responsibility coordinating the GSF-sponsored year-end picnic at Peacock Park.

A new board for 2015-16 was voted in by the GSF membership and a few of our current board members will not be serving next year. Jo has decided to step back after a highly productive, multi-year run on the board. Rebecca has also decided to step away from the GSF board, and both Tory & Windy will be moving on from Glenwood. There’s also a few other parents whose time at Glenwood has come to a close that deserve special recognition:

Amy Allen – Green Team, Movie Nights along with many other volunteer positions
Kiana Fernandez – Spring Sing, Daughter’s Dance, Son’s Night and many other community builders
Lelani Prevost - Eagle Anthology
Michelle Montakhab - Crab Feed
Jeff Woodhead - Field Day
Laura Woodhead – Auction Business Solicitation Chair
Gretchen Harrington – Office Support
Kim Boys – Auction team and community building events volunteer
Lisa Miller – Student safety and Parking Lot Landscape Committee
Maria Elena Rodriguez – Heritage Potluck and Spanish translator for GSF
Janine Shepler – Bocce Tournament committee and Spring Sing
Michelle Shilstone – Auction Committee member and Instant Wine Cellar Chair
Meg Lahart – Playground Choices
Michelle Wolfe – Used Book Sale co-Chair
Jennifer Zalayet – Auction Kid’s Raffle co-Chair

We’d also like to mention Jim and Jocelyn Hallroan for all they’ve done and will continue to do for our school (for the record, Jim & Jocelyn aren’t going anywhere, but they will no longer have a student at Glenwood, which is a big milestone). Finally, we have so much gratitude for our former VPs of Finance, most recently Becky Spence and Genevieve Allen before her. They both have had significant impact in molding the GSF into the organization that exists today. Thanks for making our community stronger!

And of course, there is you, the parent, donor, volunteer, organizer, community member, who deserve our utmost appreciation. You allowed our kids to thrive and our Eagles to soar. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Have a wonderful and safe summer and we look forward to seeing you in the fall.

With enormous respect,
Michael Mink & Val Brovelli
GSF co-Presidents
