As we near the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to take the time to express my sincere gratitude for our entire Glenwood Elementary community. Every time I am on campus, I marvel at our incredible teaching staff, led by Mrs. Goodhope, and all of the parents volunteering their time and working together to make Glenwood Elementary the truly special school that it is. With the Winter break approaching, I wanted to be sure to mark some of the events and people that helped make the Fall of 2016 so memorable.
The year kicked off with the GSF’s Welcome Back Coffee and, a few weeks later, our Fall Family Fun night. It is always so impressive to see our community reunite at these events. Tami McCall and Jaclyn Guelfi revamped Fall Family Fun night and brought live music, food trucks, and an assortment of bouncy houses to our campus. This event continues to be a wonderful way to start each school year. Jane Kurz and Tami McCall also hosted a new parent social for all families that are new to our community. It was wonderful to see teachers, Board members, and parents gather to welcome these families to our community. The GSF believes strongly that these community events are a vital part of what makes our school strong, and will be hosting our second annual Holiday Caroling event on Thursday, December 8.
This Fall has also been marked by our community’s tremendous dedication to giving back to others. I want to especially note and thank Janet Ryan for leading our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, Sara Mullen for leading our Staff Appreciation Luncheon, Shannon Myers for organizing our upcoming Holiday Toy Drive, and all of you who volunteer your time, donate, and tirelessly and anonymously give to these valuable programs.
I also want to thank those who helped make our GSF Fall fundraisers such an overwhelming success. Kristi Gamble and Jane Kurz and their incredible team of volunteers made our fourth annual Bocce Ball Tournament as fabulous as it has ever been. The night was marked by the incredible costumes of the participants, some great (and not-so-great) Bocce play, and by yet another win by the Glenwood faculty team. Not to be outdone, Evan Sims and his team of volunteer chefs threw an incredible Dad’s Club Poker Night at the Loch Lomond Yacht club. Evan has such a clear vision of what he wants the Dad’s Club to be, and I encourage all Dads to join and participate in the year’s events. Additionally, the Glenwood Book Fair, led by Reily Urban and Sarah Marovich and an outstanding team of volunteer helpers, just wrapped up and netted thousands of dollars of new books for our library and classrooms. I especially want to acknowledge the efforts of Reily, who co-chaired the Fair despite having had both her girls graduate from Glenwood. Finally, I want to note the amazing job that Nicole Klock, Kelli Kiernan, and Anne Mueller have done leading our Kids Thrive Annual Fund Drive. Under their stewardship and through your generous donations, the drive has raised over $155,000. This money allows the GSF to give our students the gift of Stephen Duffy’s music class, Molly Blauvelt’s art class, Tracy Price’s science class, Kristen Commesso’s technology class, and Coach Jim’s PE class, as well as fund all field trips and provide school supplies for every student.
I sincerely hope the holiday season brings you all peace and joy.
