Dear Glenwood Families,
As we rapidly approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we thought we could take this opportunity to give thanks for all of the wonderful work and effort that has helped make the beginning of this school year so successful for the GSF. We also want to provide a little year-to-date recap as well as a preview of what’s to come.
Our first GSF sponsored event of the year was Fall Family Fun Night, which resulted in the largest turnout we’ve ever had at this community-building event. A special acknowledgement goes to our VPs of Community Building, Jo Pocock and Caroline Jensen, for all of their hard work and for emphasizing the FUN in Fall Family Fun Night. The kids played games and competed in a hula-hoop contest organized by our resident hula expert, Kiana Fernandez. Families were able to snack on popcorn and licorice during the movie, Monsters University, which was enjoyed by all under the stars. There were even food trucks that provided us delicious pizza and tacos. Another thanks to our spirit wear coordinators, Jana Mannina and Lori Bender, for selling spirit wear at the event.
The GSF sponsored our annual New Parent Social at the home of Ernest & Nicole Klock. A BIG thank you to the Klocks for hosting and to Tami McCall for organizing! It was a terrific opportunity for us to get acquainted with some of the parents new to our Eagle community.
The Glenwood Bocce Tournament was another huge success. This was the second annual installment of what is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated events on the Glenwood calendar. Thanks go to all of our tournament players, our supportive spectators, and all of you who supported the event by purchasing raffle tickets from our indefatigable Bocce Girls. The Bocce Girls: Rebecca Cowlin, Windy Baldridge, Adrienne Collet, Becca Mink, Jeanine Lin, Thais Alencar, and Sara Mullen, all deserve special thanks for their efforts. Congratulations to the teacher team of Lisa Bordley, Toni Pellegrini, and their playing partners, on their well-deserved victory.
The GSF recently received a $300 donation from Dr. James McDowell and Dr. Michelle Gonzalez, two local dentists. They partnered with Operation Gratitude to encourage our students to donate some of their Halloween candy for a “Treats for Troops” program. Our tireless volunteer coordinator, Julia Wong, spearheaded this effort and was able to arrange a Glenwood graduate, Captain Nicholls, to address the students and share how much she appreciated receiving the candy packages. Our Glenwood students generously contributed nearly 400 lbs. of candy to send to our brave service men and women stationed overseas.
Now a few highlights on what to expect in the coming months…
