In hopes of keeping everyone more informed about the Glenwood School Foundation and how your money and efforts are benefiting all of Glenwood’s Eagles, we will be publishing a monthly update to keep our community informed. We’ve received several questions about the iPads recently so that seems like a good place to start. Through your generous donations, including one extremely generous donation, the GSF was able to purchase 30 iPads. Principal Marcucci used his funds to buy a storage cart that doubles as a charging station and cases for each of the iPads. While the iPads were in attendance on the first day of school, implementing the technology presented some challenges for the district’s IT department. Glenwood was the first school to implement iPads on a large scale. Setting up Apple IDs and how to purchase apps were some of the initial challenges that had to be overcome. By October the iPads were ready to go and were being checked out by the teachers. Maria Orendorff, our computer science consultant, sees them being used many ways including to help reinforce math facts and provide a creative outlet for the students. It is rumored that the third grade will be using them for a movie project. We would like to thank everyone for supporting this endeavor. As our teachers continue to explore new ways to use these valuable tools, we look forward to the excitement they will generate amongst our Eagles. Our next GSF meeting is on February 12 at 7pm in the multi-purpose room. Childcare will be provided and we encourage everyone to attend. We are currently discussing potential purchases for the school and your input would be extremely valuable. Go Eagles! |
